Christmas Gifts for Dog Lovers and Cat Lovers

The best Christmas gift for a dog lover or a cat lover is usually about their pet, not about dogs or cats in general. Something with their pet's name, their pet's face, or time spent together. Here are nine ideas, from small to keep-forever.

1. A portrait of their pet

Their own dog or cat, framed and on the wall. It's the gift people stop and look at every day. Choose a scene for the season with our Christmas portrait (an ugly Christmas sweater, riding a reindeer, Santa's little helper or by the fireplace), or crown them with a Kings & Queens portrait.

2. A portrait of them with their pet

For the person who'd rather be in the picture too. Our You & Your Pet portrait puts them side by side in one portrait, in the style you choose: Studio (black and white), Royal, Awkward 80s, Animated movie or your own idea. It works for couples too, with two people and up to two pets.

3. A keepsake with their pet's portrait on it

Once a portrait is approved, we offer it on a Christmas ornament, a mug or a phone case. An ornament means their pet has a place on the tree every year (order ornaments by 23 November for Christmas).

4. An engraved name tag or collar

Small, useful and personal. A good stocking filler, especially for a new puppy or kitten.

5. The bed they'd actually choose

A thick, washable bed for the warm spot by the window. Dogs and cats both appreciate a proper bed, and their people appreciate the hair staying in one place.

6. A day out together

A voucher for a dog-friendly café, a beach day or a long walk somewhere new, with you along for the drive. For cat lovers, a slow morning in with a new toy works just as well.

7. A Christmas stocking for the pet

Treats, a toy and a little something for the owner. Pets don't care about wrapping, but their people love watching them open it.

8. A donation in their pet's name

A gift to a local animal rescue helps another dog or cat find a home. Many rescues send a card you can pass on.

9. A photo book of the year

Gather the best photos from everyone's phones and print them. Twelve months of naps, walks and stolen socks.

Giving a portrait as a surprise

You don't need to ask them for photos. Use photos you already have of their pet (one clear photo where you can see the face is enough; here's how to choose the best photo), request the free preview yourself, and it comes to you, so the surprise stays a surprise. See an Instant free portrait preview first, and every portrait is art-directed by our artists.
